Find and save messages

Use Search messages to find work in conversations you can access. Save a message when you want to return to it later.

Search messages

  1. Select Search messages.
  2. Enter a word or phrase in Search Channels.
  3. Select View all results to review the matches, then open a result in its conversation.

Check the conversation and author to confirm that you found the intended message. Load more results appears when more matches are available.

Add filters to the search text. Channel and person names must identify a visible channel or person.

FilterMeaning
in:generalSearch the channel named general. Substitute your channel name.
from:meSearch your messages.
from:"Full Name"Search messages from the person with that exact display name.
before:2026-09-01Search before the start of that date.
after:2026-09-01Search after the start of that date.
on:2026-09-01Search within that calendar day.
is:pinnedSearch pinned messages.

Dates use your local time zone. Use on: for one day, or before: and after: for a range. Include each filter type only once. If a name is ambiguous, use the channel or user ID shown by the relevant interface.

Catch up from Activity

Select the bell in the sidebar to open Recent activity. Each update identifies who acted, when, and which conversation it belongs to. Select an update to return to its message or thread. Back to conversations restores the conversation list.

Opening Activity acknowledges its current notifications and clears the bell indicator. Conversation read state is separate; opening the feed does not mark every conversation as read.

Keep references with a conversation

Open Pins in the conversation header to find messages pinned for its members. Open Files to see attachments shared in that conversation. These views keep references with the conversation and follow its access rules.

Use Saved for your own references across conversations.

Save a message

Select Save for later on a message, then open Saved to verify that it appears. Use Remove in Saved to remove the saved reference. This does not delete the original message.

If a message is missing

Confirm the Account and remove filters that may exclude the message. Your access still applies to search results. See troubleshooting if expected work remains unavailable.
