# Find and save messages

Use **Search messages** to find work in conversations you can access. Save a message when you want to return to it later.

## Search messages

1. Enter a word or phrase in **Search messages**.
2. Submit the search.
3. Open a result in its conversation.

Check the conversation and author to confirm that you found the intended message. **Load more results** appears when more matches are available.

## Narrow a search

Add filters to the search text. Channel and person names must identify a visible channel or person.

| Filter | Meaning |
| ------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `in:general` | Search the channel named `general`. Substitute your channel name. |
| `from:me` | Search your messages. |
| `from:"Full Name"` | Search messages from the person with that exact display name. |
| `before:2026-09-01` | Search before the start of that date. |
| `after:2026-09-01` | Search after the start of that date. |
| `on:2026-09-01` | Search within that calendar day. |
| `is:pinned` | Search pinned messages. |

Dates use your local time zone. Use `on:` for one day, or `before:` and `after:` for a range. Include each filter type only once. If a name is ambiguous, use the channel or user ID shown by the relevant interface.

## Save a message

Select **Save for later** on a message, then open **Saved** to verify that it appears. Use **Remove** in Saved to remove the saved reference. This does not delete the original message.

## If a message is missing

Confirm the Account and remove filters that may exclude the message. Your access still applies to search results. See [troubleshooting](/docs/channels/troubleshooting#a-conversation-or-message-is-missing) if expected work remains unavailable.
