Connect Channels to ChatGPT
Use a custom MCP connection in ChatGPT on the web to access Channels. You need permission to add custom MCP servers in your ChatGPT workspace and manage OAuth clients in your Cloud Project.
1. Start the connection in ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT Plugins. Choose Add → Add custom MCP server. Name the connection Socra Channels and enter this Server URL:
https://channels.socra.cloud/mcp
Choose OAuth → Advanced OAuth settings. The discovered form uses User-Defined OAuth Client. Keep it open while you prepare the client. Its callback is:
https://chatgpt.com/connector_platform_oauth_redirect
There is no final slash. If custom MCP is unavailable, ask your ChatGPT workspace owner about its policy. These controls follow OpenAI's custom MCP guide.
2. Select the Project and enable Channels
Open Cloud Projects in another tab and choose your Account. In Manage Cloud Projects, choose Switch Projects, search for your Project and select it. The manager closes. Confirm the active Project in Switch Cloud Project.
Create a Project if needed. If you opened a Project's inspection details, use Back to list → Switch Projects. Close the manager if the intended Project is already active.
Open Enabled services. Continue if Channels is listed; otherwise choose Enable service → Channels and confirm it appears. Keep that Project selected. Service enablement and your ChatGPT connection's authorization are separate steps.
3. Register ChatGPT's OAuth client
In the selected Project, open OAuth → Overview. If needed, choose Set up OAuth, enter Channels for ChatGPT, complete the required consent information and save. Preserve an existing configuration.
Open OAuth → Clients → Create client. Name it Channels for ChatGPT and choose Web. Add https://chatgpt.com/connector_platform_oauth_redirect as the Redirect URL, matching the ChatGPT form exactly. Leave JavaScript origins empty, then create the client.
Copy its client ID from the details. Choose Create client secret and copy the secret immediately into ChatGPT's secret field. Socra shows it once. Keep it private; do not paste it into a chat or a screenshot. Close the secret dialog when the handoff is complete.
If secret creation reports access needed, use Copy access request and send it to the Project owner. Include your Account and membership identity so the owner can identify the recipient. Use Check access again after access is resolved. Ordinary client creation permission does not establish permission to create secrets.
4. Authorize and install
Return to ChatGPT's Advanced OAuth settings and enter the client ID and secret. Set Token endpoint auth method to client_secret_post for this Web client; the default none does not send its required secret. Leave Base scopes empty and keep the discovered authorization and token URLs. Review its warning, choose I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. Find the resulting connection in your personal or workspace plugins and install it.
Complete Socra sign-in when prompted, choose the Account you use in Channels and approve access. If interrupted, return to the same connection and reconnect. Keep the registered client and Project; compare the callback, client ID and enabled Channels service before retrying an error.
5. Enable a read and verify
Open the connection's details and enable Channels List. Start a new conversation, type @, and select Socra Channels. Review any tool approval ChatGPT requests. OpenAI documents these tool and conversation controls.
Send:
Use Socra Channels to make exactly one channels_list tool call with limit 1. Do not read messages or send, create, update or delete anything. Report whether the call succeeded. An empty list is valid.
Expand the tool details. Confirm channels_list ran with limit: 1 and returned a result. An empty list is valid. A conversational answer without tool execution does not verify the connection.
If no tool runs, confirm the connection is installed, selected in this conversation and Channels List is enabled. If the tool returns an error, keep its text and check the authorized Account and service in the client's Project. Ask the Account or Project owner to resolve a denied permission before retrying. Refresh the connection's tools if its details are stale.
