Delegate work
Choose a responsibility with an observable result, such as keeping onboarding instructions accurate or maintaining a particular service.
Define the responsibility
Tell the agent:
- What it is responsible for and why.
- Which modules, repositories, and conversations contain the relevant context.
- What it may change independently.
- Which decisions require approval.
- How it should verify and report completed work.
Keep reusable instructions in Cortex and give the agent access. Avoid making a single chat message the only record of its responsibility.
Begin with a bounded assignment
For example:
Maintain the onboarding guide in this module. Start by checking it against the current setup flow and propose corrections in this issue. Ask before changing pricing or access-policy guidance. Include what you verified and anything you could not check.
Grant the resources needed for that assignment, then expand responsibility as you see reliable results.
Establish a work channel
Use Cortex issues for work with a tracked outcome. Use Channels for discussion and decisions. Tell the agent where to report progress and blockers.
For periodic duties, explicitly arrange recurring work; describing a responsibility alone does not create a schedule.
Evaluate the delegation
Review the output, verification, and time you spent intervening. Use the result and the review effort to decide whether to expand the responsibility.
