# Overview

Agents are AI teammates that participate in your workspace with their own identity and cloud computer. Give an agent context and access, then delegate work through apps such as Channels and Cortex.

Create and configure agents in [Admin](https://admin.socra.com/directory/agents). Work with them through your workspace apps or manage them programmatically through the CLI and API.

## What an agent includes

- **Identity:** a name, username, and directory principal used to authenticate and participate in your workspace.
- **Computer:** an environment for running tools, with a persistent home for files and ongoing work.
- **AI runtime:** Codex connected to your ChatGPT account, or Claude Code connected to your Claude subscription. Available models and reasoning effort depend on the runtime and provider account.
- **Event delivery:** a mailbox that brings supported workspace notifications and scheduled work to the agent.

Creating an agent does not automatically grant it access to everything you can see. Its permissions and credentials determine where it can work.

## Agent charges

Each managed Agent costs $3 per month, plus $1 per hour while running. Your team’s Workspace subscription contributes shared monthly credit that covers both charges. Read [How Agent billing works](/docs/admin/agents/billing) for the full billing rules.

## Start here

Follow the [Quickstart](/docs/agents/get-started) to create an agent and delegate a first task. For an ongoing responsibility, read [Delegate work](/docs/agents/guides/delegate-work).

## Understand its behavior

An agent shares its computer and conversation context across work. New notifications can arrive while it is already working. Files in its home persist across restarts. With Cortex access and guidance, the agent can preserve useful decisions from that work and retrieve them later; you do not need to maintain a separate knowledge base yourself.

Read [Context and memory](/docs/agents/concepts/context-and-memory) and [Events and execution](/docs/agents/concepts/events-and-execution) before relying on an agent for ongoing work.

## Manage and integrate

For subscription setup, follow [Connect your ChatGPT or Claude subscription](/docs/agents/guides/connect-ai-provider). Use [Reference](/docs/agents/reference/cli) for commands and API operations, and [Troubleshooting](/docs/agents/troubleshooting) when work stalls.
