# Manage people and invitations

Use **Directory → People** to review people in the selected Account. [Account owners](/docs/admin/concepts/roles-and-permissions) can invite a person as a member, admin, or owner.

## Review people

Open **Directory → People**. Use the **Members** and **Guests** tabs to review current people. You can search the collection, sort by person, and filter by role.

Select a person to open their details. [Agents and installed apps](/docs/admin/guides/review-agents-and-apps) have separate directory pages because they are different principal types.

## Inspect people and groups from the CLI

Start with the [Socra CLI installed](/docs/cortex/reference/cli#install-the-cli). If a Directory command returns `Unknown command`, add the Directory plugin:

```bash
socra install directory
```

Installing this plugin does not change your login or selected Account.

Directory commands read the Account selected by the CLI's active profile or configured agent credentials. Creating an app token does not change that identity.

Confirm the identity and Account before reading their directory:

```bash
socra directory me
socra directory account
```

Check that the returned member and Account are the ones you intend to inspect. List members and discoverable groups:

```bash
socra directory user list --limit 2
socra directory group list --limit 2
```

Copy a member ID from the first list as `USER_ID`, or a group ID from the second as `GROUP_ID`, to read its details:

```bash
socra directory user get USER_ID
socra directory group get GROUP_ID
```

Lists return 20 rows by default. Use `--limit` to choose a page size. For groups, if more results remain, copy the cursor printed after `Next page: --after` as `CURSOR_ID` and continue the group list:

```bash
socra directory group list --limit 2 --after CURSOR_ID
```

Each list has its own cursor. User-list continuation can currently repeat the first page. Stop if the rows and cursor do not advance. To inspect another member, use an ID you already have with `user get`, or ask an Account owner or admin to find the member under **Directory → People**.

To read a group's existing memberships, use its `GROUP_ID`:

```bash
socra directory group member list GROUP_ID --limit 2
```

The table contains **MEMBERSHIP ID**, **USER ID**, and **ADDED** (the membership's creation time). The default page size is 20. If the CLI prints `Next page: --after`, copy that cursor as `MEMBERSHIP_CURSOR`:

```bash
socra directory group member list GROUP_ID --limit 2 --after MEMBERSHIP_CURSOR
```

This cursor is a membership ID, not a user ID or group ID. Keep the same group when continuing; stop if rows and cursor do not advance. An empty result prints `No group members.` Reading memberships does not add or remove anyone.

To restrict the group list to groups you belong to, use `--member me`:

```bash
socra directory group list --member me --limit 2
```

Only an Account owner can read pending invitations from the CLI:

```bash
socra directory invite list --limit 2
```

Other roles receive `403` with `Requires the owner role`. These commands do not send invitations, edit members, or change group membership.

## Invite a person

You must be an Account owner. An invitation grants the selected role after acceptance. Confirm the email and role before sending, especially when inviting another owner.

1. Open **Directory → People**.
2. Select **Add member**.
3. Enter the person's email address.
4. Select **Member**, **Admin**, or **Owner**.
5. Select **Send invitation**.

Admin opens the **Pending** tab after the invitation is created. The invitation remains there until the recipient accepts it, it expires, or an owner revokes it.

## Verify the result

Confirm that the email address and intended role appear under **Pending**. After acceptance, confirm that the person appears under **Members**.

An invitation grants the selected Account role after acceptance. Review owner invitations carefully because an owner can manage [app access](/docs/admin/guides/manage-product-access), [billing](/docs/admin/guides/manage-billing), and the [Account lifecycle](/docs/admin/guides/manage-account).

## Edit a profile or role

An Account owner can edit another person's profile and role. You can edit your own profile, but cannot change your own role here.

1. Open the person under **People**.
2. Select **Edit**.
3. Update the image, **Display name**, **Handle**, **Title**, or **Email**. Owners can also change another person's **Role**.
4. Select **Save**.

Changing ownership requires an additional confirmation. Another active owner must remain. Confirm the resulting role on the person's detail page.

## Remove a person

Removing someone revokes their access to the selected Account and its resources.

An Account owner can open another person's detail page, select **Remove**, and confirm. Check that the person no longer appears in the collection. To remove your own membership, use [Leave an Account](/docs/admin/guides/manage-account#leave-an-account).

## Recover from an invitation problem

Check **Pending** before resending an invitation. Confirm the email and ask the recipient to use the intended Socra identity. If the invitation is wrong, an owner can revoke it from Pending. Use [Troubleshoot Admin](/docs/admin/troubleshooting) for Account or permission errors.
